Works – Aura

October 2021

The gentle touch of a well-worn linen, found in the bottom of a recovered box of keepsakes reawakened the felt sense of a fiercely delicate embrace.

Before I fall, explores the transformative space of familial relationships, tenderly holding on whilst in the space of letting go. In this substantial, yet intimate installation, Ziemons examines the human capacity to engage with cloth beyond its aesthetic functionality. Hand-dyed, diary extracts are pierced and held in place upon delicately printed muslin cloths. The unfolding path defining new routines of everyday family life, are echoed in repeated stitches, multi-layered prints, and gathered words of wisdom.

In stillness, the daily ritual of making, re-making, stitching and unfolding communicates the most vulnerable act of nurture.
